Tour Overview
The Cu Chi Tunnels are a tunnel system 40 kilometers northwest of Ho Chi Minh City. This tunnel was originally an underground battle tunnel dug by peasant soldiers for more than 20 years when Vietnam resisted French rule. During the Vietnam War in the 1960s, it became an important underground base for anti-American tunnel warfare. It was built by the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam (Vietnam Communist Party). It has a total length of 200 kilometers and is composed of numerous tunnels less than 80 centimeters wide and divided into three staggered structures. The buildings in the tunnel include hospitals, conference venues, sleeping rooms, combat rooms, grain depots, military traps and other equipment, and the planning is extremely complete. On your journey to explore the Cu Chi Tunnels, you can’t miss a unique stop – lacquer art handmade by disabled people who were victims of Agent Orange in the Vietnam War. Here, visitors will witness every step of lacquer painting production, from preparation of materials to painting to the completion of the product. Each painting deeply embodies the imprint of Vietnamese culture and art.

Depart Ho Chi Minh City at 8:00 am and take a comfortable bus to the Cu Chi Tunnels on the outskirts of the city (approximately 60–70 km away). On the way, you will stop at Lam Phat Handicraft Village for the Disabled to visit the exquisite lacquerware handicrafts made by people injured in the war and gain an in-depth understanding of their perseverance in life attitude and creative spirit.
Next, the tour guide will introduce the historical background of the Vietnam War and the important strategic role played by the Cu Chi Tunnels during the war. Upon arrival, enter the Cu Chi Tunnels Historical Relics Area and experience this underground maze-like tunnel system. The tunnel was built by Viet Cong guerrillas during the war and is more than 200 kilometers long. It has conference rooms, bedrooms, medical rooms, trap designs and ventilation facilities, fully demonstrating the perseverance and wisdom of the Vietnamese people during the war. Visitors can actually walk into the tunnels to experience the difficult underground living environment back then, and watch local documentaries to learn more about the war stories and historical background. This trip is not only a cultural visit to the battlefield, but also a journey of profound reflection and understanding of Vietnam’s history.
FAQ
It is recommended to book at least 1 month in advance, especially during the peak tourist season (November to April). The number of cabins on luxury cruise ships is limited, so the earlier you book, the better you can ensure your ideal departure date and room type.
This tour is recommended for children over 6 years old. The cruise ship offers family rooms, and some activities such as kayaking expeditions have age restrictions and are not recommended for children under 5 years old.
