Tour Overview

The Cu Chi Tunnels are a tunnel system 40 kilometers northwest of Ho Chi Minh City. This tunnel was originally an underground battle tunnel dug by peasant soldiers for more than 20 years when Vietnam resisted French rule. During the Vietnam War in the 1960s, it became an important underground base for anti-American tunnel warfare. It was built by the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam (Vietnam Communist Party). It has a total length of 200 kilometers and is composed of numerous tunnels less than 80 centimeters wide and divided into three staggered structures. The buildings in the tunnel include hospitals, conference venues, sleeping rooms, combat rooms, grain depots, military traps and other equipment, and the planning is extremely complete. On your journey to explore the Cu Chi Tunnels, you can’t miss a unique stop – lacquer art handmade by disabled people who were victims of Agent Orange in the Vietnam War. Here, visitors will witness every step of lacquer painting production, from preparation of materials to painting to the completion of the product. Each painting deeply embodies the imprint of Vietnamese culture and art.

Travel Highlights

Handmade lacquer painting art by disabled people

The small lacquer painting workshop located in Tân Sơn Nhì District, Ho Chi Minh City is an art world full of humanistic warmth. Most of the artists here are physically and mentally handicapped. Although they have limited mobility, they possess exquisite craftsmanship and love for art. Based on traditional Vietnamese lacquer art, they combined techniques such as mother-of-pearl inlay, gold and silver powder painting, and color layer dyeing to create detailed and moving lacquer paintings.

Cu Chi Tunnels (Ben Duoc)

Ben duoc is the most original and best-preserved section of the Cu Chi tunnel system. It is slightly far away from Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) and retains the underground labyrinth that Viet Cong soldiers dug, expanded, and used during the Vietnam War. These passages first started during the anti-French period in the 1940s, and were further expanded in the 1960s, eventually forming a huge network of passages connecting the countryside with US military bases, with a total length of about 250 kilometers.

Defense sports shooting activities

At the famous war site in Vietnam, the Củ Chi Tunnels, in addition to exploring the historical tunnel maze, tourists can also experience the highly immersive "National Defense Sports Shooting Activity". This is one of the very few tourist locations that allows people to legally use real weapons for live-fire shooting, providing a unique and shocking military experience. You will have the opportunity to hold a variety of classic firearms from the Cold War era such as AK-47, M16, M1 Garand, RPK, etc., stand on a military shooting range, and accurately shoot fixed or moving targets with live ammunition, simulating a military training scene.
